Overarching
Fright
Thou
plug lives
Like
the playful child,
Frolicking
around the garden behind:
Throwing
and smashing flowers sportively.
Mercy
not on age or climb
Just
cavorting around.
No
wonder!
unbeknownst to Him,
the stories
of scission abound
And
hence I fondly ask:
“Why
doth Thou not heed
And
stop sporting around”.
Thou
art not a playful child, are you?
Every
time, I cough, I fear.
Every
time my mom coughs, I fear
Every
time a mask- less face passes by,
I fear,
If my
immunity is firm and strong
And can
battle this overarching fright of death-
I
ask in faith,
And my
Patient faith replies:
“I am the resurrection and the life.
The
one who believes in me will live, even though they die;
And
whoever lives by believing in me will never die.”
Fabulous sir

ReplyDeleteThe poem very beautifully presents the existential crisis of the contemporary times.
ReplyDeleteThe existential angst especially in the last two lines is too real,
" The one who believes in me will live, even though they die;
And whoever lives by believing in me will never die.”
Thank you, Dr Zeeshan for your words.
DeleteI am no connoisseur, but following lines dig my conscience:
ReplyDelete"For sometimes an able poet becomes engrossed in the construction of figures and thereby fails to take into consideration how the 'rasa' is to be built. These words may serve as a warning, for there are many examples of poets who have been solely intent on figures and who have neglected 'rasa'."

I agree, Sir.
DeleteMarvelous poem describing struggle between faith and fear. The present crisis coming out of overwhelming disaster throughout the world and the existing situation of the people are described with a minute observation in a very beautiful manner.

ReplyDeleteVery minute observation of the pandemic fear that is taking its toll on everyone. Children are no exception. The last lines give us hope : This too shall pass.
ReplyDeleteI'm overwhelmed, seriously no words to define or to denote...✝️
ReplyDeleteWhere the mind is with fear...
ReplyDeleteYou have expressed the perennial tussle between faith and fear and it is so easy to connect for the context is so contemporary.
Good attempt, Anurag.
Would like to know your interpretation of lines 10 and 11 .
Shouldn't the question tag be - are you?
Lord! How did it slip through? Inattentiveness plays a major role in making boo-boos.Thank you, Di.
